A WONDERFUL CATHOLIC
SCHOOLS WEEK!
We are celebrating a wonderful Catholic Schools Week! Our students celebrated “Faith, Academics,
Service” this week by working together as a homeroom to decorate a candle that
represents what their class holds as sacred elements of their faith, writing a
note to their homeroom teachers and to God telling how they will do their best
in all subjects, earning a quarter through providing a service and donating
that quarter to the missions, and thanking their parents for sending them to a
Catholic school! What a great week!
PLEASE VOTE EVERY DAY! Please vote
for St. Dominic School's FIRST LEGO League team! The team has invented a device called CHESS – Comprehensive Hand washing with Employee
hand Scanner System. The completely
automated device has voice prompts with instructions. It uses an RFID tag and reader. It washes hands, scrubs fingertips, dries
hands, and scans when finished. All
information is recorded and data is available for analysis by employer. To help make the invention a reality, the
team has entered the FLL Global Innovation Award. The winning team will be offered the
opportunity to work with Edison Nation to professionally develop,
produce, and take their invention to market (a prize valued at up to $250,000
in product development services.) The
teams with the most votes will have their ideas reviewed by a panel of experts,
and the winner will be determined.
Please help make the team’s project a reality by visiting the website
and voting for CHESS. Please go to the web site http://fllinnovationaward.firstlegoleague.org

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Our mission—to live
the good news!
Today’s readings invite us to ponder deeply. Job speaks of human life as akin to slavery,
a time of emptiness and misery that passes like a breath. Yet, despite many trials, Job never lost faith in God. Does it seem astonishing then that this bleak
picture is followed immediately by the psalm that invites us to “Praise the
Lord, who heals the brokenhearted?”
The apostle Paul recognizes his call to preach the gospel and reports
that “an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to
me if I do not preach it!” Why does he
do all that he does? All his efforts, he
writes, are “for the sake of the gospel,
so that I too may have a share in it.”
Paul, convinced of the glory of
God’s reign, carried the message of a
HOPE that is beyond anything for which we could ask or even imagine.
This
is the company to which we are called, to be part of the great crowd
looking for Jesus. St. Leo the Great
observed that whatever was visible in Christ has passed over into the sacraments. What was visible to Christ? Inclusion for the isolated, health restored
to the sick, light for those in darkness, food for the hungry, drink for the
thirsty, balm for the afflicted, healing for the sick, sight for the blind, and new life for the dead.
When we begin to understand the
great promise to which we are called, even the greatest difficulties of life
cannot obscure our vision. So we
continue to come day by day, week by week, year by year, to the twin tables of WORD and EUCHARIST.
